"Go for an MBA only if you are doing it for the right reasons.".
Vamsee Krishna from IIM Ahmedabad discusses with Complore.com about his mba preparation journey and making it to best mba college in India.
After finishing my BE from NIT Surat, I worked with IBM for one year as an application developer. 2006 was my second attempt at CAT, and managed to crack it comprehensively. 5 calls, 5 converts along with a convert from XL. I just finished my two years at IIMA and am waiting to restart my professional career as a consultant.
2. Why did you choose IIM A?
IIMA is undoubtedly the best institute in the country, and the most recognised brand name in terms of MBA education. My interview experience also strengthened the belief. Frankly speaking, it was an easy choice.
Firstly, I would like to point out that life in different MBA colleges is not comparable. Life at IIMA is extremely busy and happening. A good part of first year is consumed in studies, with 4 hour sleep schedules, tons of hours spent in group assignments, surprise quizzes at one hour's notice and hundreds of case studies. And even when you are not studying, there are enough activities happening on campus to keep you busy all the time. How you utilise your time is your personal choice, there is no dearth of options.
4. What made you leave your well-settled job and go for a full time mba?
In today's world, there is a constant need for one to upgrade his skills and capabilties to achieve progress in career. An MBA, specially from a respected institution like IIMA, acts as a strong catalyst towards this objective.
5. How did you study for mba entrance exam?
Once I got my basics strong, it was mainly about giving a few mock tests and ensuring that I do not repeat my mistakes, a couple of hours every weekend was good enough.
6. What was your strategy for GD/PI?
Regular reading and stay in touch with world affair is essential to face GD/PIs. One has to lay a lot of emphasis on personal (HR) questions for PIs, they are ones that often break the deal.
7. According to you, what is the right time to go for an MBA. Should economic scenarios drives an individual's MBA plans?
Economic conditions are cyclical in nature, and one should not be short sighted in making a choice of MBA. There is no ideal time to do an MBA, opportunity and personal circumstances should dictate the choice.
8. Any advice for future MBA aspirants?
Go for an MBA only if you are doing it for the right reasons.
