Milaan is a youth lead organization working for creating opportunities for children and youth in the remote parts of India. The young students from Delhi University came together for a declaration of change. Change that provokes freedom to dream, freedom of thoughts, freedom from the fear of failure and disappointment, freedom to join hands to bring a sustainable change in the society.
With the vision of “A World of Opportunities to Fulfill a Million Dreams”, in July 2007, Milaan initiated a project in Kaintain village of Sitapur (Uttar Pradesh) to build on the capacities of the young population of the nearby area through informal education and life skills workshop. The project started with 10 children and one teacher in a tent at the backyard of an individual’s house; at present, it reaches out to 102 children with the support from 5 teachers in a two classroom setup constructed on one acre land donated by the community.
Milaan is registered as a non-governmental organisation under sector XXI of Societies Registration Act 1860 dated 18th Oct 2007. In 2009 Milaan was awarded with the Changelooms Fellowship by Ashoka - Innovators for the Public and Pravah. It has been honoured with the Karmaveer Puraskaar by iCONGO – Indian Confederation of NGOs. It is continuously strengthening itself with expertise and support of volunteers coming from various walks of life and contributing in building a credible, transparent, measurable and scalable organisation.
Milaan is planning to reach out to 300 children in the coming academic year and strengthen its commitment to give India a better future to sustain its development.
Complore, with Milaan, looks forward to dreamers to walk along with our children and share a slice of their life and resources to fulfil a dream, a dream to go to school , a dream to play, a dream to look into the unlimited sky and say “I can and will fly”.
