I guess sthe answer is 36+4=40.
The ones with two black face will be on the edges and not the corners (36 in nos). the ones on the all the corners will have three faces black(4 in nos) so total comes to 40.
Visualize the cube. On top face horizantal slice, central 9 pieces dont have 2 black sides. In the next 3 horizontal slices below, only the 4 corner slices have 2 sides., so the pieces that dont have 2 black sides are 9 + 3 X 4 = 21 in each slice, so 21X 3 = 63. Again the nine central pieces of bottom slice has no 2 black sides.
So, pieces without 2 black sides = 63 + 9 + 9 = 81
Answer = 125 - 81 = 44
